Urbanization, globalization, climate change, demographic change are all public pressures on people’s quality of life, safety and security. This has put many city authorities in a challenging position to tackle problems, relating to these topics. To address this, we have developed a series of hackathons spread over three months, to challenge our partners and developers to seek new ways to connect, get better insights to foster a better environment and develop a smarter and safer cities.
Thanks to our lead sponsor, Oracle Cloud Solutions will be offered for free during this hackathon and all submissions will gain extra points for being deployed on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Together, we can harness the latest information technologies to help deal with these challenges. Below are some examples to kickstart your ideation process!
The first step is choose which of the two events to join (each one on its own date) which all have the identical #SmartCities theme. You should select one that fits your availability, your experience and skill level and your interest! Participants and teams are welcome to join multiple events, as long as a different product is developed in each stream. Hover over each tile below to see a list of their potential problem statements.

When submitting your solution at the end of the respective hackathon, your team will need to incorporate or make a reference to least one prescribed dataset released by our Lead Sponsor. These datasets will be released during the opening ceremony.

Team formation is going to be happening in a number of different potential ways. You will be able to work out who is in your team before the competition starts however you won’t be able to officially register your team on the Hackerspace until the competition launches.
Once you have registered, you will receive a welcome email have access to our our resources, calendar sync and Slack space.
Hackmakers will organise, lead mentors, and mentors with hackathon experience will facilitate teams to maximise their experience. This includes helping match participants to team and skills, debug code, ideate, introduce to the resources and tools, and effectively present their solution.
We will have over AU$25,000 worth of prizes generously contributed by our sponsors and community partners. In every hackathon, the prizes will be distributed in the following method:
Winners and finalists will be distributed irrespective of the selected challenge category.
